Richard is a partner at Brinkhof who specialises in conducting European patent litigation. As a lawyer and UPC representative, he advocates the interests of primarily international companies before the UPC and the national patent courts in Europe, including in The Hague. Richard has gained international respect for his balanced coordination of parallel patent proceedings in Europe, the US and the EPO.

Richard is a member of the Advisory Board of EPLAW, the European Patent Lawyers Association, and has previously served as president of that organisation. He studied in Amsterdam and at Columbia University Law School in New York (LLM, 1983).
