
Maarten Groeneveld

Maarten is an attorney at Brinkhof and a representative at the Unified Patent Court (UPC). Since the inception of the UPC, he has been involved in proceedings in the fields of electrical engineering and telecommunications. Through his contribution to both national and UPC proceedings, he has experience with cross-border patent disputes.
Experience & ancillary activities
His passion for IP law led Maarten to become an attorney. He graduated from the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam with a master’s degree in Internet, Intellectual Property and ICT. He wrote his master thesis on obtaining a supplementary protection certificate on a second-medical-indication patent. During his master studies, Maarten also gained practical experience as a research assistant and legal advisor at Clinic Law Incubator. In 2022, Maarten was sworn in as an attorney at the Amsterdam District Court.
In addition to patent litigation, Maarten participated in the Young EPLAW Mock trial in 2024. This is a competition in which young patent lawyers from Europe argue against each other.
Matters of Maarten
– Acting on behalf of Versuni’s predecessor, Philips Domestic Appliances, in preliminary injunction proceedings against Anheuser-busch Inbev to obtain a cross-border ban on the sale of home tap systems.
– Defending Oppo in UPC proceedings brought by Panasonic.
