Brinkhof appoints two new counsels and two new associate lawyers

We are pleased to announce that some of our colleagues are taking the next step in their careers at Brinkhof. Alexander de Leeuw and Paul Marcelis were appointed counsel and Fleur Westenend and Maarten Groeneveld were appointed lawyer assistant.

Alexander de Leeuw
Since his admission to the bar in 2015, Alexander has been a lawyer at Brinkhof. He specializes in all aspects of patent law and litigates before the UPC, the Dutch courts, and the European Patent Office. His primary focus is on the pharmaceutical industry, and in addition to patent law, he advises on regulatory matters and trade secret protection.

Paul Marcelis
Since 2014, Paul has built a strong track record in international patent litigation. Most recently, he played a pivotal role before the UPC in the very first second medical use patent case. With extensive experience representing both rights holders and alleged infringers, he excels in managing complex cross-border disputes, where international coordination is an integral part of his practice.

Maarten Groeneveld
Maarten has worked as an attorney at Brinkhof since 2022, specializing in national and European patent law. He advises and litigates on a variety of patent law issues and has experience with cross-border disputes. Since the start of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), he has been active as a UPC representative, representing companies, including in electrical engineering and telecom.

Fleur Westenend
Fleur advises and litigates across a broad spectrum of competition law matters, with a particular focus on Big Tech and digital markets. On the advisory side, Fleur provides strategic guidance on regulatory developments, including the Digital Markets Act (DMA). On the litigation side, she represents clients in high-stakes competition litigation before courts, including in collective actions. She is also involved in cases at the intersection of competition and patent law, particularly within the pharmaceutical sector
